Michaël Borremans: Shades of Doubt
The realistic, old-fashioned way of painting does not match the subjects of Borreman’s paintings. They make you feel again like a small kid, gluing his nose on a painting at the museum and asking: How is that made? The analytical approach of the design is an attempt to (over-)explain what the mystery is made of.
The size of the magazine is only A5, but I decided to show the paintings in their original size, this means I was only able to show a crop of each painting. The cover reveals the puzzle, in the scale 1:20, next to swatches of colors he most often uses (the names are used to structure the interview).
